The old town of Quebec, Canada

Found in the early 17th century, by the French explorer Champlain, Quebec is the only North American city that is still surrounded by its ramparts,bastions, gates and defensive works. Old Quebec is also the first North American city to be recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Old town of Quebec is divided in two: The Upper town and The Lower town.

The Upper town is build on a 330 ft (100 m) cliff. It has preserved its functions of an administrative and religious center.

When you travel around the Upper town you can see a lot of churches, convents and monuments such as Dauphine Redoubt , the Citadel and Château Frontenac.

The Lower town is built on the low-lying ground bordering the St. Lawrence river.

Many of Quebec’s attractions such as Batterie Royale, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Notre-Dame, City Hall, and the Old Port area are located in the Lower town

The Old town of Quebec  is the ideal place to spend the Christmas holidays. The Christmas atmosphere in Old Quebec is magical. Throughout the town trees, homes, storefronts and office buildings are decorated and lit for the Christmas season.

You won’t make a mistake if you walk along Petit Champlain on a beautiful December evening or take a carriage ride throughout town during the day. Make sure to wear worm clothes as the weather here sometimes gets extremely cold .

Either in the winter or during the warmer seasons, you will never regret visiting the Old town of Quebec
