Kilauea is one of the world’s most active volcanoes. It is located on Big Island of Hawaii.
In Hawaiian language the word kīlauea means “spewing” or “much spreading”, which refers the volcano’s frequent outpouring of lava.
Kilauea is considered to be the home of the ancient Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele
In the Hawaiian mythology, Kīlauea is where most of the conflict between Pele the volcano goddess and the rain god Kamapua’a took place.
The latest lava eruption was in March 2008.
It is interesting to note that you can hire a guide to take you to the volcano.
