Burning Man Festival, Black Rock Desert, Nevada

Burning Man is an event that is held every year in the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada, USA.

Burning Man starts the Monday before, and ends on the day of, the American Labor Day. The event is named after the ritual of burning of a large wooden effigy on Saturday evening.

It began as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice in 1986 when a group of friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco and burned an 8-foot (2.4-meter) wooden man as well as a smaller wooden dog. Later they described the inspiration of burning these effigy figures as spontaneous act of radical self-expression.

You will get a better idea of the craziness of the festival if you watch the short movie.

In 2008 there were 49 600 people that took part in the event.
