India was declared the best tourist destination in the world for 2011 at a ceremony in Qatar’s capital Doha late last night.
At the 19th edition of the awards, called “The Oscars of the Travel industry”, the winners in 146 categories were defined by more than 210 thousand professionals worldwide from over 5 thousand companies from 162 countries.
For the best airline company for third year was announced Etihad Airways, the best low-cost airline is EasyJet. Best business class is supported by Qatar Airways, and the best in Europe Lufthansa.
“Oscar” for airports goes to Singapore’s Changi, best hotel in the world is the seven-star Burj al Arab Dubai.
The best beach for 2011 is Trou Aux Biches in Mauritius, and the best cruise destination is Jamaica. It is also the best place to spend your honeymoon. Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh is the leader for the fans of diving, the most romantic place in the world for the last year were the Maldives. The most “green” destination is Cousine Island in Seychelles.
