Bulgaria is one of the most attractive countries in the world for adventure tourism. It is ranked 6th among developing destinations in the ranking of the Association for adventure tourism in U.S.
According to the organization Bulgaria is a year-round destination, and a special emphasis is put on the mountaineering opportunities in the summer and winter. There is also advertisement about the bike trails with a total length of 1,200 km. The Association adds that Bulgaria is rich in ancient ruins from Thracian and Roman times, and in cultural, historical and architectural monuments.
The ranking summarizes the response of 315 tour operators, journalists, hoteliers and experts. The countries are ranked according to 10 factors, including sustainability, safety and security, health, natural and cultural resources and infrastructure.
Leader in the ranking of developing destinations is Israel, followed by Slovakia, Chile, Estonia and the Czech Republic. Slovenia, Jordan, Romania and Latvia are ranked after Bulgaria. The ranking of the developed destinations is leaded by Switzerland. It is followed by Iceland, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Norway, Finland and Austria.
