They call it the eight wonder of the world. The ruins of this unique prehistorical monument are located 130 km southwest of London in the Salisbury lowland. With its diameter of 100 meters it is the most famous megalith structure in the world.

Stonehenge was built  5 000 years ago. Nowadays look of the structure is not what it was in the past. Most of the stones are gone now. They are either buried or had fallen.

The stones are high from five to nine meters and weigh around 25 to 45 tons each. We know that Stonehenge was built in ancient times, but why - it remains a mystery. Many suggest that the stones are lying, to form a kind of calendar.

Scientist believe that the stones are arranged in a special way to mark the season change.

Stonehenge is a historic site. Have in mind that not everyone find it interesting to visit. But if you decide to visit it make sure to book a tour in advance.

The site was added to UNESCO’s world heritage sites in 1986.
