The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc hill is situated in the heart of Barcelona, close to some of the most popular sights. You can easily get to them either from Espana Square or from the opposite side of the hill, where the Olympic stadium is located. Tourist buses that go around the city stop in the upper part of the fountains. At the top of Montjuic hill tourists find themselves in the most beautiful and mesmerizing place for sightseeing.
The climbing from the side of Espana square is the most vivid one. The sight is pleasure for the eyes, every square centimeter has to offer gardens, historical buildings and of course the Magic Fountain. The climbing itself is effortless as there are no heights or endless stairs to climb. For visitors’ comfort there are escalators that take them all the way to the top of the hill. The fountains themselves begin from the Espana Square. They are spread throughout several terraces all the way to the top of the Montjuïc hill. The large fountain is situated at the very top.
During the day the Magic fountain is not operational. The show begins at 9pm in the evening. People start to fill the spectators’ spaces from 6pm onwards. There are several panorama stairs which people use for seating areas. Just before 9m there usually isn’t any free space remaining. What is surprising in the scenery is the fact that even though there are a huge number of spectators, the noise levels remain relatively low. Suddenly there is the sound of splashing water and the fountains begin to form a water wall which in turns makes its way to the top of the hill. Everyone is now anticipating the culmination of the evening.
It doesn’t matter where you view the show from; the scenery is more than spectacular. Of course it is best to view it from the hill overlooking the Espana Square. A huge amount of water gets poured under many lights and loud music. From the water spray, the Espana Square’s towers remind us of a fairytale castle, and on the horizon you can see an outline of the Sagrada Familia.
Viewing the show from the square is spectacular too.Behind the water fountain you can spot the magical historic building placed on top of the hill. Everything is a mixture of water, lights, music and people. A lot of people. The pathway leading to the square is lightened up and in the middle of it there is a row of smaller fountains reaching the two towers – the symbols of Espana Square.
The show itself is free and is definitely one of the top attractions of Barcelona. It is a sightseeing worth visiting!
